What Are Robot Vacuum Cleaners?

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

The robot vacuum cleaner was invented by Electrolux and introduced into the consumer market in 2001. Soon after that, Roomba vacuums appeared as they perfected the cordless vacuum cleaner.

Robotic vacuums are extremely convenient rug and floor cleaners, but they do not have the suction and performance power of an upright or canister vacuum. They do not or cannot perform a deep cleaning of your carpet.

One way to look at the robotic vacuum cleaner is as a carpet sweep. They are powerful hands-free, battery charged, rug and floor sweepers, that have been designed to seek out and pick up the dirt, lint, sand and dust that lies on your floor and carpet surface.

These small vacuums were created to help out those with a busy life. Taking care of them is also very easy; filter and brush replacements when required; empty the dust bin after each use, and check the vacuum for trapped debris. After the room as been cleaned, the robotic vacuum cleaner will go back to the recharging station to charge its battery for the next time you need it.

Prices will vary too on these robot vacuums, you can find Roomba models these days for under $100 dollars. So if you looking for a legitimate cleaning solution, take a look at robotic vacuum cleaners -they are no gimmick.

Upright Vacuum Cleaners

Friday, November 14th, 2008

The two main things you need to think about when buying an upright vacuum cleaner is exactly what you need the vacuum for and how much you want to spend.

Upright vacuum cleaners are best for carpet, although most upright vacuums can also clean bare floors. Most manufacturers claim their upright vacuum cleaners have similar benefits to a cannister vacuum, such as powerful motor, attachments, clean air exhaust, convenience features.

What do you need to consider when choosing an upright vacuum? Identify what you will most often clean with the vacuum. This will of course allow you to prioritize certain features, such as bare floor attachments, upholstery attachments, or powerful main bristles, etc. Is your home carpeted wall to wall, do you have a some bare floor and area rugs? Do you have ceiling fans? Pets? If you plan to use your upright vacuum cleaner to clean (dust) the ceiling fans and window sills, make sure you have the ability to get a long extension hose and the correct attachments.  If you deal with alot of allergies or pets, look for vacuum cleaners with clean air exhaust, HEPA filters or pet hair removal attachments.

Warranties are also important. Many vacuum cleaner manufacturers offer one-year warranties. Dyson, for example offers a five-year warranty. The longer warranty you can get the better. It’s also important to know if a company offers separate warranties for “parts” and “labor.”

How much should you expect to spend? Probably around $100 to $500 for an upright vacuum cleaner. For the cheaper price, you will only find the most basic models. And of course as prices increase so do the features and capabilities of the uprights. Our philisophy is to spend a few extra dollars on a better vacuum now, to save the hassle of dealing with poor quality and possible problems.

The magnified cross section of the filter shows how the layers of chemically treated cellulose Indian fibers effectively block the passage of dust particles, irritating pollens, and other impurities. As a result, only filtered clean air passes through and back into the room.”

Fixing Your Vacuum Cleaner

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Today’s vacuums are build better and tougher but every once in a while, you will need to get your vacuum repaired.  How is the best way to do it?  Do-it-yourself or have someone else do it? That is the question.

Having someone else do it, probably is the simplest solution.  When you find a local repair shop and bring in your broken vacuum cleaner, they’ll ask you a few questions, such as what was happening when it stopped; how old it is , etc to help get a quick evaluation of the problem. After reviewing that and the vacuum itself, the shop should be able to see what the problem is and if they will be able to fix it right away. If not, then you will probably need to leave the vacuum cleaner in the shop and normally pay a small fee for them to determine the nature of the problem. Many times that fee will go towards any repairs.  Though a good option, could take some time.

Do-it-yourself is the option. If you like fixing things or saving money, then this option might be the one for you.  Make sure you read all manuals and directions before starting. Also check your warranties.  For those who want to do the work themselves, here are a few articles for reference:
